The trouble with Creationists —again

Posted in Creationism, Terry Trainor, Venomous mammals on February 14, 2011 by solenadon

That’s all I can say.  Pure, unadulterated laziness.  I provided a link to Google Scholar for PZ Myers papers (comes out to 11,400 hits).  His claim…he say “hundreds of thousands” of hits.  This tells me he didn’t click the link (or is out and out lying to cover his ass).

He also harps on “anonymity”.  Considering he has a board administrator “Cherokee Chick”, his harping on anonymity rings hollow.  It appears to be an excuse to avoid viewing the evidence.

And Terry Trainor is apparently a preacher.  If he is a preacher, apparently his holy book means very little to him, especially the commandment against lying and false witness.

The trouble with Creationists – part 3

Posted in Creationism, Terry Trainor on February 13, 2011 by solenadon

I gave up trying to get Terry Trainor to do some actual work.  I finally gave a link to google scholar and the PZ Myers papers.  After a while the spinning Trainor was doing to avoid actually looking was just getting tiring.

It’s a rare sight to see someone work so hard to avoid doing something so simple.

Something tells me Terry Trainor will deep six the post and ban me.   After all,  his main claim to fame is the fantasy that scientists are incompetent.  To show otherwise would humiliate him.  Since creationists don’t like to be shown to be wrong, he will have to do that other great creationist attribute…hiding the evidence.

The trouble with creationists – part 2

Well, I wasn’t kicked…yet.  But, as expected, Terry Trainor ignored the info on how to find what he wanted.  Indeed, he used a spelling flame, complaints of “civility”, and complaints of “anonymity” to avoid it.

Creationists…lead them to information…just can’t make them understand.

The trouble with Creationists

Posted in Creationism on February 9, 2011 by solenadon

Creationists tend to be lazy.

A couple of examples are one Terry Trainor and one John Davison.

John Davison has a beef with PZ Myers.  So much that he questions Myers’ publishing history.  Terry Trainor piles on, for no better reason than that Davison is Trainor’s pet anti-evolutionist “scientist”.

No where does it occur to them to go to Google Scholar, Type in “PZ Myers” and see what he has published.  Seemed like a first place to start.  Not to them.  They’d prefer to wallow in the fantasy that one of their main “opponents” (opponents in quotes because PZ Myers really couldn’t care less about these putzs).

I finally got tired and told them how to use google Scholar.  Unfortunately, because of Trainor’s history, I fully expect the post to be deleted, as it contradicts what he wants to push.  I took a screen shot of the post, for posterity

I will probably be kicked out of Terry Trainor’s pet group as well.  At this point, it doesn’t matter.  They’re just more proof that reality and creationists are incompatible.

Freakout du jour

According to wingnuts (and oddly enough a supposed member of the “left wing media“), the American DOE is trying to force “mandatory Arabic language” courses onto the Mansfield Independent School District.  To read these articles and associated comments one would think there some nefarious plot to Islamisize America through language training (along with a healthy dose of “Why doesn’t the world speak English” sentiment).

One thing wrong with these assertions, as a moments thought (and reading the press release would reveal)  is that it is not mandatory.

The statement reads in part…

The District applied for this grant because the Arabic language is listed by the federal government as a critical language. This means that our country has a shortage of Arabic speakers and there is a need for people who are not only proficient in the Arabic language, but also possess knowledge about its cultures and traditions.”

Two things here.

1) The schoold district applied for this grant, it wasn’t forced on them.

2) Arabic is considered critical by the government and there is a need of speakers who can understand it.

Arabic isn’t the only language covered by these grants, although it appears that Mansfield only applied for the Arabic one.  The following says it all…

The FLAP grant was created to establish programs to address national shortages in languages including Arabic, Chinese and Russian.”

indicating a need for speakers of these languages if the US is to maintain relations with the rest of the world (Arabic for oil, Chinese for outsourced jobs, Russia for Oligarchs).

However, the Teabaggers/nutters don’t see it that way.  With a healthy dose of Islamophobia, they casually wonder why any “furrin” language should be learned.  If English is good enough for the “exceptional” US, it’s good enough for the world.

Finally, we have this, from the Mansfield School District…

There are no “mandatory Arabic classes” as being falsely reported in the media.

Once again, Right wing freakout over nothing…

Mark Steyn – Still Free

Posted in Watching the elephant, Wingnuts on February 3, 2011 by solenadon

I first came across Mark Steyn through buttons on blogs associated with the Blogging Tories.  “Free Mark Steyn” these buttons say.  Is this guy in jail?  House arrest?

Apparently, he wrote something that annoyed some people and these people reacted.  Conseratives feel oppressed when people react to the foolishness they say.  So, to them, Mark Steyn must obviously be oppressed, even thoug he’s still wandering around giving speeches.

Cuomo garners unlikely praise – Times Union.

Strange form of oppression, to be able to freely give speeches and to sub for Rush Limbaugh…
